I will combine the three core dimensions of traditional martial arts inheritance, modern scientific fitness, and safety protection, sort out a set of complete, down-to-earth, metaphysical, and suitable martial arts practice precautions for novices, distinguish the bottom line that must be followed for entry, core cultivation points, pit avoidance taboos, and long-term practice guidelines, taking into account physical fitness and kung fu inheritance, and fully fit the norms of formal martial arts practice in China.
To learn Chinese Kung Fu, we must keep in mind the core precautions
Chinese kung fu has never been "playing moves, practicing fighting", the core is to strengthen the body, cultivate the mind, inherit skills, novices are most likely to deviate, get injured, and waste their efforts, the following is according to the "bottom line of life→ core cultivation→ avoiding pitfalls and red lines →long-term practice", all of which are actual combat dry goods.
1. The first principle of entry: safety always comes first, and eliminate 3 fatal misunderstandings
This is the first iron law of all regular martial arts halls and traditional sects, and if you violate it, you will be hurt and take a crooked path:
It is strictly forbidden to blindly pursue "quick success, ruthless moves, and actual fights"
There is no saying that Chinese kung fu can be completed in 30 days and invincible in 7 days, and all teachings that focus on "quickly defeating the enemy, defeating the enemy in one move, and fighting on the street" are all gimmicks that violate the essence of martial arts, and it is very easy to practice joints, develop wrong habits of force, and even cause illegal risks.
It is strictly forbidden to carry pain, illness and injury
Martial arts practice distinguishes between "soreness fatigue" and "tingling, joint pain, and strain pain": muscle soreness is a normal progression, and the joints, lumbar spine, knees, and wrists tingle must be stopped immediately. Traditional kung fu is the most taboo "minor injuries do not get out of the line of fire", and 90% of the old injuries in martial arts practice are practiced by novices with minor injuries.
It is strictly forbidden to practice routines and hard exercises directly without warm-up or relaxation
Kicking, punching, and standing on the pile without warming up are the first culprits of knee, waist, and ankle injuries; If you don't stretch and relax after practice, your muscles will become stiff and lumpy, not only will you become more and more stiff the more you practice, but you will also lose flexibility, which completely violates the core of kung fu's "combination of rigidity and softness".
2. Core cultivation: Grasp these 4 points, and your kung fu will not be in vain
Many people have practiced for more than ten years and are still fancy, but they haven't grasped the core, and the root of Chinese kung fu is never in the routine:
1. Build the foundation first, learn the tricks later, pile skills and basic skills are the unchanging roots for a hundred years
Traditional martial arts say that "practicing martial arts without practicing gong, until the old is empty", and the "gong" here is the basic skill and pile gong:
First practice standing piles, horse steps, lunges, footwork, basic force, and breathing coordination, strengthen the body's center of gravity, core strength, and muscle and bone flexibility, and then learn boxing routines;
Refusing to learn a full set of routines and fancy moves as soon as you come up, the foundation is not solid, and the moves are all empty shelves, which are neither powerful nor easy to get hurt.
2. Understand the principles first, then practice hard, understand the logic of the action and then work hard
Every boxing frame, move, and force has a corresponding offensive and defensive logic, force path, and body order, and it is not possible to imitate the appearance of the action.
If you don't understand the principle of force, you can only pose it, which is "boxing", not practicing martial arts;
It is necessary to understand that "strength is born from the roots, strength is from the waist, and penetrates through the joints", and every move is practiced to the tendons and bones, and the strength is practiced, rather than just practicing hand and foot movements.
3. Breathing and movement are synchronized, and hard exercises are eliminated
Chinese Kung Fu pays attention to "qi and force", not metaphysical qigong, but scientific breathing cooperation:
Cooperate with exhalation when exerting force and attack, cooperate with inhalation when collecting momentum and accumulating force, breathe naturally throughout the process, and it is strictly forbidden to hold your breath and lock your throat with hard force;
Holding your breath and practicing hard will greatly increase blood pressure, damage the heart and lungs, and will also make the force stiff, and you will not be able to practice kung fu at all.
4. Proceed step by step, do what you can, and refuse to compare strength
Kung fu is a lifelong practice, not a short-term competition, don't compare kicking height, punch speed, strength, and practice time with others:
Joint flexibility, muscle and bone strength, and core strength can only be cultivated slowly, forcibly pressing the legs, breaking the waist, and overloading the strength to exercise strength, which will cause irreversible damage 100%.
It is enough for novices to practice 3-4 times a week, 40-60 minutes each time, and excessive training will only overdraw the body, which goes against the original intention of practicing martial arts to strengthen the body.
3. Martial virtue and rules: Xi Wu first learns virtue, which is the soul of Chinese kung fu
Traditional sects accept apprentices, first look at character, then look at talent, no virtue and no art, the core bottom line:
Martial arts practice is only for strengthening the body, self-defense, and inheriting culture, and it is strictly forbidden to bully the weak, take the initiative to pick quarrels, and fight
Kung Fu is the confidence to protect oneself, not the capital to cause trouble, and taking the initiative to hurt people is not only against martial arts, but also legal responsibility.
Respect the teacher and respect the way, do not talk about the sect, and do not belittle the skills of other schools
Chinese kung fu has a hundred schools of thought, Tai Chi, Xingyi, Bagua, Shaolin, and Nanquan each have their own essence, there is no high or low, only whether it is suitable for oneself, and never praise one step or discuss the teacher.
Don't be frivolous, don't show off your skills, and keep your heart
The deeper the kung fu is practiced, the more calm and introverted people become, and the real warrior never takes the initiative to show off his skills and compete.
4. 5 common pitfalls that novices must avoid, avoid taking 10 years of detours
Only practice routines, do not practice skills: fight boxing every day, do not practice pile skills, do not practice force, do not practice basic skills, practice radio gymnastics all your life, have no actual combat ability, and cannot maintain your body.
Superstitious hard skills, blind platooning: novices blindly practice iron sand palms, hard qigong, and platoon gong, which are very easy to damage internal organs, bones, and nerves.
Follow the trend and practice chaotically, mixed with sects: learn Tai Chi today, learn Sanda tomorrow, learn traditional boxing the day after tomorrow, the logic of force and body shape requirements are completely in conflict, and finally the body shape is chaotic, and the force is scattered, and you can't learn anything.
Neglecting the right body, hunching over, crooked shoulders and twisting hips: The core of all kung fu is "standing upright", once the body is crooked, the force is all wrong, and it will accumulate damage to the lumbar spine, cervical spine, and spine over time.
Find the wrong master and go astray: stay away from the "master" who only brags, focuses on quick fights, has no formal inheritance, does not teach basic skills but only teaches tricks, and practice martial arts formally, giving priority to the teacher's succession, teaching philosophy, and whether safety and foundation building are put first.
5. The core of long-term practice: Kung Fu ultimately practices the heart
At the end of the practice, you will understand that Chinese kung fu is not only about the body:
practice concentration, stand on the stake, concentrate on the whole process, and quit impetuousness;
what is practiced is endurance, day after day boring foundation building, grinding away the impatient;
What is practiced is reverence, reverence for the body, reverence for skills, reverence for rules, humility and restraint.
